52 Weeks Of Donna's Life

Donna's Photo Challenge

High Above

Our camera club visited the Drum Circle at Sarasota’s Siesta Beach (in Florida) one very warm Sunday evening recently. It was my first time at this event and there were lots of people and activities to see and photograph. But I became aware of a constant whirring sound which did not seem to be emanating from within that circle. Suddenly the source of the whirring appeared high above the crowd of people and, using my camera lens, I saw more clearly what this “thing” was.

It's a bird?

It’s a bird?

It's a plane?

It’s a plane?

It's a camera drone! ! !

It’s a camera drone! ! !

An enthusiastic amateur photographer, I enjoy picturing the events, people, animals and things in my life. And so joining in the "52 Week Challenge" of interpreting life through a lens sounds as if it will be a lot of fun -- presenting my view through the lens and seeing how others in our photography group interpret their views concerning a given subject.

  1. I hope that it stayed high above. These things are becoming more and more common and I am ever so glad that they are banned in the National Parks.
You captured it well – as I am sure it captured you.

    • Had never before seen one in live action but still feel that a person with camera in hand has a better chance of getting a specific and more accurate picture. I can only imagine that they take a lot of meaningless pictures. That being said, I have seen some awesome videos of places that are inaccessible to the common photographer — i.e., bird’s eye views of Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon, etc.

  2. Nice shots. Have never seen one in person. I don’t know if I am a big fan of their use, privacy issues.

  3. Cool. You were also Right Place at the Right Time. Well done.

  4. We recently received notification from our Coldwell Banker legal department that we are not allowed to use drones in our photography.

    • That is very consoling to know. Use of these drones seems like using counterfeit money. They do have their uses though and I believe the U.S. military can gain (and are gaining) by using them.

  5. Someone went to an expensive length to get photos of the Drum Circle. This could also be the “It’s a Mystery” theme. Maybe the drone was spying someone there. 🙂

  6. My curiosity was aroused in this way — who was the owner? Now I could use three themes using this pic as a “threefer” and be almost caught up with my pictures.
